SWITZERLAND — renowned for holding on to its traditions and supposedly being slow to change — breaks with that moldy generalization at the very least when it comes to its up-and-coming young fashion designers.
Proof of this will be as crystal clear as a fresh Alpine stream at the 4th Swiss Fashion Point 2017, starting tomorrow the 28 September and continuing through the 1 October at the Pavillon Sicli in the Acacias suburb of Geneva.
Showcasing talent of Swiss Romandy
I’ve seen for myself the skill and craftsmanship of some of the 35 Swiss designers — some established, others newcomers — who’ll be on hand to present and sell their creations. These include some personal favourites: the stunning hand-sewing techniques of Ly-Ling Vilaysane of Aéthérée; the subtle refinement of Pascale Cornu; and the intricate jewellery pieces made from reconstituted antique watches by T’as Pas L’Heure, to name but a few.
Giving fashion professionals, buyers, journalists and the public the chance to appreciate the designers’ skills and talent for themselves is but one objective of “team. SFP”, the five fashion professionals who organized SFP 2017 with the backing of Espaces Contemporains and Bolero magazines and HEAD Geneva.
Other objectives of this non-profit organization are to showcase the work of designers from the Swiss Romandy, stimulate commerce in the region, and encourage joint projects between Swiss designers of fashion, jewellery and accessories.
Design Days 2017
The event takes place in the context of Design Days 2017, an annual event celebrating Swiss and international furniture design that takes place simultaneously at the Pavillon Sicli. So you don’t have far to go to get your fix of cutting edge furniture design as well as the latest in fashion and accessories. ♠
