Calling all Green Thumbers to the Coppet Garden Festival on 3-4 May

ALTHOUGH THE Coppet Garden Festival takes place on the spacious grounds of the Château de Coppet and there are more than 100 exhibitors, there’s nothing over-sized and impersonal about it.

Rather, it feels exactly like the laid back, local get-together that it is. And the perfect way to ease into summer what with the warm, sun-filled days and cool, clear evenings predicted for this coming weekend (well, there may be a few drops but it’s still worth the visit…).

Meander among the greenery on offer: trees, plants, seeds, and flowers and also garden accessories, handmade jewellery, soaps, dried flowers, printed cards and picture frames.

Enjoy a bite to eat or a chai latté from one of many food trucks. Participate in a lecture or two with gardening experts. Then head home with a plant or two dangling from your elbow…or if you’re more ambitious, a wheelbarrow (free service to your car offered) full of a future weekend’s gardening work.

It’s all there for you and so easy to get to either by car (local free and paid parking available) or by train (Coppet station is five minutes’ walk away).

Children are welcome to idle away their time in a circus workshop, tree climbing (both are free) or cycling on a “Rosa Cheval” pedal horse (paid).

The Garden Fair is brought to you by Hortus, a foundation devoted to preserving landscape heritage by revitalising and promoting parks and gardens accessible to the public, while strengthening biodiversity.

All the info you need can be found on the Festival’s homepage. Hope to see you there for a few days of no (a little?) rain, just shine.

For a bit of added fun: On Sunday, May 4th from 11am, stop by BioTop in Coppet Village for a free tasting of Chilli con Quinoa (vegetarian) soup, offered by Oak Orchard Edibles in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
